In this article we outline the different types of Morocco desert tours which are usually available.

Additionally, we outline acceptable pricing, expectations and standards of quality.

First, there are 2 types of Desert tours in Morocco:

Shared, group tours 

Private tours

Private Morocco desert tours

Private desert tours are tours which are private just for your friends or family, or 

members of your group.

Typically, to be cost effective, there should be at least 3 other people with you in your group.

This is because, with a private tour, the tour company has to incorporate all of the costs in the tour.

This means that you and your group pay all of the costs. 

The more people which are in your private group the cheaper the per person cost of the tour will be.

Costs will be based upon how many people are in your group. 

Remember that regardless of the amount of people with you, the tour company still has to pay

exactly the same costs for Fuel, staff, driver and guide and vehicle costs.

The cheapest Private tours 

should include standard desert camps, 3 star hotels with private ensuite rooms,

A Minivan, a driver, Camel treks. 

The desert camp, however, will probably not include on site toilets.

Most Moroccan tour companies include evening meals and breakfasts in their tours.

And most exclude the cost of lunch and drinks.

Typically, the vehicles do not have Air conditioning and are sometimes rather old.

Additionally, because of the cost of running air conditioning, paying this level for a 

desert tour, sometimes the driver refuses to switch the AC on - even in a 30 deg C heat.

Costs for this type of service should typically be:

A minimum of 4 or 5 people required in your group.

Total for 4 people: 

280.00 Euro for a 2 day 1 night Desert tour

396.00 Euro for a 3 day 2 night Desert tour

520.00 Euro for a 4 day 3 night desert tour

The more people that are in your group, the cheaper the price should be on a per person basis.

For example, the per person price for a 3 day 2 night tour as above would be 99.00 Euro

based upon 4 people.

If there are 10 people in your group, we would expect to achieve a per person price of around

90.00 Euro per person.

The next level of Private desert tours:

should include standard desert camps, 3 star hotels with private ensuite rooms,

A Modern, air conditioned Minivan, a driver, Camel treks and an english speaking guide. 

The desert camp should include on site toilets.

Most Moroccan tour companies include evening meals and breakfasts in their tours.

And most exclude the cost of lunch and drinks.

The tour company vehicle should be modern. 

The driver is more likely to switch on the Air conditioning.

Costs for this type of service should typically be:

A minimum of 4 or 5 people required in your group.

Total for 4 people: 

296.00 Euro for a 2 day 1 night Desert tour

432.00 Euro for a 3 day 2 night Desert tour

584.00 Euro for a 4 day 3 night desert tour

The more people that are in your group, the cheaper the price should be on a per person basis.

For example, the per person price for a 3 day 2 night tour as above would be 108.00 Euro

based upon 4 people.

If there are 10 people in your group, we would expect to achieve a per person price of around

98.00 Euro per person.

To travel on the tour in a private 4x4 (real 4x4, as outlined in the previous article),

You should add approx 100.00 euro per person.

The Luxury Private Desert tour:

should include Luxury desert camps, 3 star hotels with private ensuite rooms,

A Modern, private vehicle, a driver, Camel treks and an english speaking guide. 

Most Moroccan tour companies include evening meals and breakfasts in their tours.

And most exclude the cost of lunch and drinks.

The vehicle should be a very good condition modern private vehicle or "real" 4x4.

Costs for this type of service should typically be:

A minimum of 4 or 5 people required in your group.

Total for 4 people: 

  460.00 Euro for a 2 day 1 night Desert tour

  760.00 Euro for a 3 day 2 night Desert tour

1140.00 Euro for a 4 day 3 night desert tour

The more people that are in your group, the cheaper the price should be on a per person basis.

For example, the per person price for a 3 day 2 night tour as above would be 190.00 Euro

based upon 4 people.

If there are 10 people in your group, we would expect to achieve a per person price of around

170.00 Euro per person.

To travel on the tour in a private 4x4 (real 4x4, as outlined in the previous article),

This should be included or at a small supplement.

In any event, the Moroccan tour company should use a very modern and comfortable vehicle

and definately not a standard minibus.

Shared Morocco desert tours

The cheapest shared Morocco desert tours, the tour price should be roughly the same as the 

per person private tour price of the cheapest category, as above:

A set price of    68.00 Euro per person for a 2 day 1 night Desert tour

A set price of    99.00 Euro per person for a 3 day 2 night Desert tour

A set price of 130.00 Euro per person for a 4 day 3 night Desert tour

Shared desert tours enable people to join a group tour. 

This means that you can book for just yourself with no minimum amount of people required.

Private desert tours usually require a minimum of 4 people, shared desert tours only need a minimum of 1

person as the tour companies accept reservations from many different sources. 

Accommodation on shared desert tours should still be private.

Remember though, the vehicles may be old, not have Air conditioning

and this will be your "Earthy" experience.

The next level of shared Morocco desert tours, the tour price should be roughly the same as 

the Second category of the Private desert tours as above:

A set price of    74.00 Euro per person for a 2 day 1 night Desert tour

A set price of 108.00 Euro per person for a 3 day 2 night Desert tour

A set price of 146.00 Euro per person for a 4 day 3 night Desert tour

The vehicles should be modern, have Air conditioned which will be used (depends on the company),

stay in Standard desert camps with on site toilets, the food should be improved from the cheapest 

tour standard category and you should have a very helpful English speaking driver or an English

speaking tour guide.

Hostel Marrakech do not know of any Shared Luxury desert tours in Morocco.
